Kamloops Caremongers - Greg Klohn @ GK Sound

May 25, 2020 by Kathleen Fisher in portrait photography, photography, commercial photographer

Meet Greg, owner of GK Sound. For those of you that don't know Greg, he's got to be one of the nicest, generous and most hardworking guys you will come across. GK Sound specializes in professional and innovative event & lighting design, including some of our local favourites - BrewLoops Beer Festival, TRU Foundation Gala & IDay's. Even with their industry at a stand still amongst the COVID-19 pandemic, Greg saw an opportunity to spread some gratitude and support for our essential workers. With the help of his dedicated team,
these guys donated their time and equipment to light up The North Tower Residence at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) this past month.

I don't know about you, but this beautiful sight certainly lifted my spirits. Did anyone else get a chance to see it? To Greg and the incredible crew at GK Sound, thank you for all that you do. Kamloops is so lucky to have you.

This is Harper, or as her dad affectionately calls her, Rosie.

She is 3 years old and full of life. If there's music playing, she's probably dancing. If she's requesting the song, it's something by Michael Jackson. She's always up for trying something new and is never far behind her big brother Liam. She has an incredible imagination already and even has an imaginary friend named Toko who we first 'met' about 2 years ago now. She has these amazing green eyes, the sweetest ringlets in her hair and gets the rosiest cheeks (hence her nickname). She is a loving little girl who is always greeting her friends and family with a hug. She is strong and sure of herself. She has Cystic Fibrosis, but it does not define her. She is a fighter and amazes her family daily. When you ask her what's special about her, she will tell you she has 'sixty-five roses' 🌹

Please help me, help Harper by spreading the word about our Hope for Harper Fundraiser - limited spots available.

Kamloops Caremongers - Bob Dieno @ NuTech Safety Ltd.

April 29, 2020 by Kathleen Fisher in commercial photographer, photography, portrait photography

Meet Bob Dieno, the owner of NuTech Safety Ltd. Like so many small-business owners, Bob and his team at NuTech have been busy adapting their business amongst the the COVID-19 pandemic. As Bob navigates this challenging time, he has graciously donated 3 boxes of 1870 - N95 masks to the Royal Inland Hospital Intensive Care Unit. It doesn't stop there! Bob is one of the only qualified mask fitters in Kamloops and is generously offering FREE mask fit testing for any medical service professional, whether they purchased the mask through NuTech or bring in their own. Ensuring our healthcare workers are safely and properly equipped is just one of Bob's many efforts during this pandemic.

To Bob and his wonderful team at NuTech, thank you so much for your selfless efforts to keep our community safe! Kamloops is lucky to have you.

Kamloops Caremongers - Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre

April 27, 2020 by Kathleen Fisher in commercial photographer, photography, portrait photography

Meet the compassionate ladies from Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre Society.

"We know that during times of fear, uncertainty, and isolation, violence increases. Home is not a safe place for everyone."

KSACC is an organization committed to supporting those in our community who've experienced gendered and sexual violence.

During this time, the KSACC staff are not only continuing to offer phone counselling to their clients, they've also established a support line for local people that have experienced domestic or sexual violence. Available 24/7, community members can call in and receive information on their options, referrals to community supports, and compassionate, non-judgemental emotional support.

This support line is free, local, and confidential. Call 1-888-974-7278, any time, day or night. Remember, you are not alone!

To the incredible team at KSACC, thank you for all that you do for our community! Kamloops is lucky to have you.

Kamloops Caremongers - Eddie @ Lapper Entertainment & Security

April 21, 2020 by Kathleen Fisher in commercial photographer, photography, portrait photography

Meet Eddie, owner of Lapper Entertainment & Security. Not only does Eddie provide excellent security services all throughout the year for our community, he’s always finding ways to fundraise and give back to those in need. One story that really stood out to us was hearing that Eddie, along with the help of his generous friends and supporters, gathered together webcams for our Kamloops Hospice Association. During the COVID-19 pandemic, so many services like the Hospice, have had to restrict family and friends visiting their loved ones. Our local Hospice did a call out to the community for webcams and Eddie immediately stepped into action. Thanks to this amazing initiative, the guests staying at the Hospice now have access to virtual visits with their family and friends, which is so, so important during their final days.

It doesn’t end there, when Eddie heard that the BC Girl Guides were worried about selling this seasons stock due to the pandemic, he purchased 10 cases and has donated them to places like The Mustard Seed and those in our marginalized community. You might also recognize Eddie from “Ed the Security Guy’s Charity Christmas Tree Pick-up”, an annual fundraiser he started to raise money for our hospice.

The list goes on! Clearly Eddie, his team at Lapper and his friends/supporters, are some of Kamloops’ true Caremongers. Eddie, thank you for all that you do. Kamloops is so lucky to have you.

Kamloops Caremongers - Heather McIntyre

April 08, 2020 by Kathleen Fisher in commercial photographer, photography, portrait photography

Meet Heather McIntyre, a pharmacy technician at Royal Inland Hospital

“The feeling at the hospital is perhaps stress of the unknown and fear of what’s potentially to come.

Emotions are high. Although people might be lonely and scared in self isolation, we have to remember that we are all in this together.”

Right now, our healthcare workers are on the frontlines battling the novel coronavirus disease that’s spreading throughout our city, province, nation and the entire world. These courageous souls cannot self-isolate with their loved ones or stay 6 ft away from sick patients. They are putting themselves in the path of this virus, in Kamloops and around the world.

The stakes are high and the challenges innumerable - too little information, dwindling personal protective equipment, changing protocols and no second chances. Yet, our doctors, nurses, technicians, transporters, EMTs, pharmacists, housekeepers and everyone who supports patient care are rising to the occasion and caring for our community before themselves.

THANK YOU for the sacrifices you make, every day and especially during this pandemic. Your dedication, commitment and bravery deserve our deepest gratitude and admiration. Thank you just doesn’t suffice.

Do you know a local company/organization or a local resident who is going above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic? If so, please let us know, as we would love to feature them and help spread some positivity.

Note, we are not asking for payment, this is just our way of giving back to our incredible community.

Kamloops Caremongers - Michelle Yavaşgel

April 01, 2020 by Kathleen Fisher in portrait photography, photography, commercial photographer

Kathleen Fisher Photography & Aspect Film Works have been wondering how we could give back during this challenging time we are all facing.

Most of you have likely seen the increasingly popular “front porch sessions” where photographers are capturing families during self-isolation on their porch, front lawn or through their front window. A lot of our local photographers are donating a portion of the money made towards our local food bank, how cool is that?!

We wanted to do something a little different! We wanted to showcase our local businesses and community members who are not only working and providing us with essential services during this scary and uncertain time, but also those who are going above and beyond with their generosity.

We are honoured and excited to share our first Kamloops Caremonger, Michelle Yavaşgel!

Michelle has been making homemade bread and delivering it to people in Kamloops FOR FREE! Whether a neighbour has run out, or a complete stranger cannot afford it, she's generously spending her time baking and ensuring these people aren't left without one of our most loved staples! <3 Thank you Michelle! Kamloops is lucky to have you!

Do you know a local company/organization or a local resident who is going above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic? If so, please let us know, as we would love to feature them and help spread some positivity.

**Note, we are not asking for payment, this is just our way of giving back to our incredible community.
